Adding a personal safety alarm in schools can save lives
Thursday, November 4th, 2010It is sad to say that in our modern school systems that there is a need for metal detectors, police officers and certain security requirements. With the history of school violence in America and past shootings, the last thing anyone wants to hear are the words “man down” when it comes to emergency situations. While there any many different ways to prevent these things from happening, it is always in the best interest of the children and staff members of schools to have some sort of technology available for a worst-case scenario. Not only is it wise to invest in a personal safety alarm in any school, but having something that can also make faculty aware of other issues and receive emergency messages for things such as severe weather warnings and local school lockdowns are extremely beneficial.
For over the past fifty or so years, there have been around 100 shooting incidences in schools in our country. Some reported incidences have had no deaths, while the most people killed during a shooting was 33 victims. It is difficult to say why and when these incidences will occur; no lone worker at a school wants to see something of this magnitude take place. There are ways to get advance notice for something happening, such as profiling students and determining behavior patterns, finding out whether they have access to weapons or asking if their friends know anything. While profiling and counseling can help reduce the threat of a shooting happening, there is still always a chance that someone can randomly react; having a panic button alarm could be the difference between life and death, in regards to getting quick response time to emergencies. Technology has helped the modern world deal with troubling situations by providing the timely responses and information we need.
