Wirelessly Protecting Loved Ones in Assisted Living Facilities

Assisted living facilities are one of the many locations where safety and security are keys to success. Staff members are responsible for the care of patients at varying levels. Some cannot get out of bed by themselves, some wander and forget where they have gone, and some fault between knowing what is right and what is wrong creating risks to themselves and other residents.

Often the assisted living facilities are quite large, including multiple floors or even more than one building, creating an obstacle for notification of and communication during an emergency. For these reasons, it is vital for staff to have a safety plan in place in case a harmful situation arises.

Most assisted living homes have the standard pull cords and nurse panic buttons for patients and staff to use in case of an emergency. The problem with these options is that they are in set locations and they do not cover the times when the instance occurs outside of arms reach from the button or pull cord. Say a patient falls while walking outside. The nurse or staff member that is with them would have to run back inside, leaving the patient alone, to get help. This opens up an additional safety risk and wastes valuable time.

This situation, and many more like it, is where a wireless personal duress system can save the day. The TTI Guardian, for example, provides an additional layer of safety to the residents and an advanced security plan for staff members. The Guardian stays with residents wherever they are on the facilities grounds. In the event of a slip and fall, chest pain, medical emergency, medication request and more, a single button press can send an alert to an individual or group of staff indicating not only who sent the alert, but also where they are. Staff members can even send an acknowledgement back to the resident indicating their message was received and assistance is on the way.

These technology developments allowing wireless alarms to be developed have created a new sense of peace when it comes time for a parent or grandparent to live in an assisted facility. The advancements in safety and security help turn an emergency situation into a positive outcome.
Just imagine how much more secure family members will feel knowing that their loved ones are protected at all times!
