The Lone Worker
Working alone is inevitable for some people. Either their job is a solo gig, only requiring one resource, or the company has a limited staff causing individuals to complete their tasks independently. Whether being a lone worker is by choice or not, the issue of safety is always a concern.
When on the job, it is the employer’s role to make sure their crew is accounted for and safe at all times. When a situation arises, there should be a means for the lone worker to reach others for help. This could be in the form of a walkie-talkie, a cell phone, a two-way pager, or a duress system.
Developing a lone worker policy should be a priority for every business. Here is an article discussing the topic and how a proper duress system can save the lives of lone workers.
